Approximately 75% of Americans currently own smartphones, and Apple reported over 4 million preorders for the iPhone 6 within 24 hours of announcing the device. As of 2009, according to the EPA, only 40% of consumer electronics were recycled, and only 8% of mobile devices were recycled.
