Shelby County Household Hazardous Waste Facility

Shelby County offers county residents a convenient and year round facility to properly dispose of their residential Household Hazard Waste (HHW).  For safety and environmental reasons, Household Hazardous Waste requires special handling and disposal.  Waste Connections of Memphis customers are encouraged to use the HHW facility since Waste Connections is not licensed to haul hazardous waste.

Cost: Free to Shelby County Residents
Limit of Drop-Off Materials: 100 pounds or 15 gallons per vehicle once every 30 days
Time: 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
When: Tuesdays and Saturdays

  • Aerosol Spray
  • Automotive Fluids (antifreeze, motor oil, auto batteries)
  • Adhesives
  • Cleaners
  • Electronics (computer, cell phones, keyboard—one per household)
  • Fertilizers
  • Flammable Liquids (gas, kerosene)
  • Herbicides
  • Mercury thermostats
  • Pesticides
  • Pool Chemicals

Unaccepted Items:

  • Ammunition
  • Commercial Waste
  • Explosives
  • Government Waste
  • Medical Waste (prescriptions)
  • Microwaves
  • Non-propane Cylinders (fire extinguishers)
  • Paint (latex or water-based)
  • Tires
  • Unidentifiable materials

Please dispose of household hazardous waste material at the HHW facility, and do not place those items in any Waste Connections of Memphis container.
